Plaza Captain
Overview
The Plaza Captain is the event’s flight control tower. They ensure all participants know where to go and when to go there, preventing traffic jams throughout the plaza. The Captain and their crew of deputies and volunteers will get our riders to the start on time.
Key Duties
- Work with staff to develop overall plan for flow and timing of the whole plaza
- (With staff) Recruit 2-4 deputies
- Lead trainings on flow and timing of traffic on plaza
- Remain in constant contact with staff during the event
- Proactively deal with traffic jams / problem areas as they arise
The Commitment
- Spring: attend captain kickoff meeting (date TBD), at least 1 early planning meeting
- Spring/Summer: contact potential deputies
- Summer: Lead at least 2 trainings for deputies and volunteers
- Sunday September 21:
- 6am – 7am: final set up of plaza
- 7am – 8am: oversee traffic on plaza
- 8am: make sure everyone is at the start area
